The basis for your first sewing project
Would you like to immerse yourself in the creative craft of sewing? We can advise you on what you definitely need in your sewing kit. For your first project, we recommend trying out something simple, such as a bag or pillowcase. Of course, you can also start with an item of clothing if you wish. Be inspired!
Now, which sewing utensils should you have? Fabric chalk, pins, tweezers, seam rippers, sewing machine oil and brushes are the most important utensils for sewing. Many other utensils will make your life easier and help to keep your sewing table tidy. It’s always much nicer to work at a tidy workstation, and it’s easier to put your ideas into practice.
It all starts with sewing instructions
Before you buy the fabric and start to sew, you should choose a pattern. This tells you the amount of fabric you need to carry out the sewing project successfully. This is why we recommend a book about the art of sewing. In step-by-step instructions, you will learn how to make dresses, trousers, shirts and other fabric creations with your own two hands. You will also find creative inspiration for old textiles (upcycling) in the comprehensive book. This book will talk you through the wonderful art of sewing. And when you feel confident enough, you can develop your own style, modify patterns and create completely new artworks using fabric.
Create precise patterns with retractable chalk pencils
You pattern is ready and waiting to be transferred onto your selected fabric. You use the fabric chalk to draw the pattern onto the material. We recommend using our retractable chalk pencil for this. You can neatly draw the pattern onto the fabric without getting chalk on your fingers.
Depending on the colour of the fabric, you can choose from a range of chalk colours. In our online shop, we stock the colours red, yellow, blue and white. And if your chalk is running out, you can simply order refills. And again, you are perfectly equipped for your next sewing project.
Sewing tools for quilting and embroidering
Do you love quilting? Because we have the right sewing utensils for you to get really creative. Rulers with various patterns allow you to create completely individual patterns. Whether arcs and lines, angles, curves or waves: Decorate your quilt with these marvellous embellishments.
To use a ruler along with your W6 sewing machine, you need a ruler foot. An extension table is also ideal for this. The fabric will have more room to lie on the enlarged sewing surface.
Fans of quilt rulers will also find the practical ruler set in our shop. This already includes the various rulers, as well as the ruler foot. Affectionately designed quilting work is a wonderful idea, not just for your own home. Surprise your nearest and dearest with a unique quilt – a very special gift.
If you are more of a fan of freehand embroidering, you’ll also find what you’re looking for with us. You can tension your chosen fabric perfectly in a 5-inch or 7-inch freehand embroidering frame. Now you can embroider marvellous motifs onto it.
You’re in total control
The thread sometimes creates challenges. Especially when it doesn’t want to be threaded through the needle. A needle threader can help you there. The thread will end up where you need it quickly and without a fuss, and you can get started with your sewing.
If the thread isn’t running smoothly, or even jumping during the sewing process, pull a thread net over the bobbin. This will enable the thread to run evenly and smoothly.
Sometimes you need to unpick a stitch. You can quickly lose your patience when using scissors. With a special seam ripper, you can loosen the thread with ease without accidentally damaging the fabric.
For especially fine work, you will need a set of tweezers now and again. In very dark places, a set of LED tweezers is handy. They provide sufficient light, and you can even grip the smallest threads.
The little tools in the collection of sewing utensils,
pins, are both a blessing and a curse. They keep your fabric together so that you can sew the individual pieces of fabric together precisely. But these little needles also end up everywhere: on the table, on the floor, even in the carpet. To prevent little accidents, we recommend a magnetic pincushion. The magnetic pincushion allows you to gather up all your pins and store them together in one place. You can even find the needles hidden in thick carpet.
We also offer a bobbin case to match the oval magnet pincushion. This allows you to keep all your bobbins where you can find them easily. This provides two storage and collection systems in one for both pins and bobbins. This sophisticated sewing tool can also help you keep things tidy. At all times, you can look to see which colours you have left on your bobbins, and your pins are always within reach. You don’t have to search for them. If you plan to meet your friends for an afternoon of sewing, you can take your bobbins with you in a bobbin storage box. This keeps them stowed away perfectly, and they don’t fall out during transport.
Are you working with a very fine fabric where pins would leave undesired holes? We have the perfect solution for you with our fabric clips. The clips hold the pieces of fabric together for sewing and don’t leave behind any trace on the material.
Underlay mats: A safe surface for your sewing machine
You are doing yourself and your sewing machine a massive favour when you put down an underlay mat under your sewing machine. The extremely soft padding acts as insulation and will protect your nice wooden or plastic table, for example. The sewing machine vibrations are significantly reduced and you can enjoy a quieter sewing experience.
The anti-slip underlay also gives your sewing machine stable grip to the table. It’s also a comfortable surface for your hand when you don’t need to use both.
Ideal for storage and transport
You have successfully completed your sewing project. Now, your sewing machine, overlock machine or coverstitch machine can be stowed away in the cupboard until your next project. Store your machine in a sewing machine bag. This gives it the ideal protection and it can be stored easily. A transport bag or case is also perfect for carrying your sewing machine to a sewing course or to meet with friends for a creative sewing day.
If you have enough room in your home for a separate sewing table, the sewing machine can stay there. A dust cover will prevent dust and other debris from getting in.
Looking after the sewing machine or overlock machine correctly
You need to perform regular maintenance on your sewing or embroidering machine so that you can enjoy using it for longer. Use a sewing machine brush to remove dust, lint and small fibres from your machine.
In the handbook accompanying your sewing machine, the places which should be oiled are also marked. With a little sewing machine oil, your sewing machine will purr like a kitten and you can delight in perfect sewing results.
Beautiful stickers for individual decoration
Are there several people in your home who indulge in the creative hobby of sewing? Or does your child sew? Then it’s a good idea to use stickers to add a personal touch to your own sewing machine. A sewing machine decorated with your favourite stickers doesn’t just look great, you’ll also never get it mixed up with someone else’s. You can show off your creativity in many ways. With the fabric, by decorating your sewing machine and in many other ways.
